This large and playful pine needle basket incorporates sliced black walnut shells and ceramic beads around which the needles swirl and wave to form a sweet vessel to hold fruit or bread at the table.
To prepare the needles, I cook them for three hours in a glycerin solution to increase their flexibility, longevity, and gloss. The center salmon and turquoise coils are wrapped with heavy duty embroidery thread. It took about 40 hours to make this basket.
