This bowl was inspired by the beautiful meadow outside my studio in Napa, California. I collected pine needles from the ground on our property, along with wild oats up on our hill. I used vines from the Carolina Jessamine that grows on the arch I pass through to the meadow, where every spring it blossoms into a chaos of yellow. I used rushes grown 10 steps from my open door.
On this basket I retained the end cap on some of the pine needles for texture. When I dye the needles, this part holds more of the dye, a deeper, richer color. I added hen feathers, dragonfly charms, and beads to complete it.
The Earth Basket truly represents the beauty of my place.
