Blue Celtic Cross Serving Basket

A small ceramic Celtic Cross basket base is nestled in the center of this beautiful serving basket, surrounded by a wavy blue ring of wrapped pine needle coils. I make my ceramic pieces at a local workshop. Each ceramic or metal piece is unique and guides the introduction of colors and ultimately the basket form.

I use pine needles that I’ve “cooked” for several hours in a glycerin solution (improves flexibility and provides gloss), and sometimes dye (I usually use RIT dye but have also done some natural dying with plants on our property).

This basket took approximately 50-60 hours to complete. It is indeed labor intensive but my baskets are super solid and I always work to make each one shine in its own special way.
