Trinket baskets are of a personal size for small items like keys, change, jewelry, or candy. For this pine needle basket I chose winter colors to play off the petite enameled copper center. The copper is backed by a piece of leather to prevent scratches and as a support for the center piece.
I use glycerin and water soaked long leaf pine needles from the south, as well as fallen needles picked up here at home in California. The coiled wrapping is high quality cotton embroidery thread. The wrapping itself takes considerable time and attention, altogether making the total time for a small basket upwards of 20 hours.
I scattered tiny seed beads around the inside to create the illusion of sparkling frost against the backdrop of winter colored coils.
